Potential medicinal plant remedies and their possible mechanisms against COVID-19: A review

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak was first reported in Wuhan, a city Hubei Province of China December, 2019 and is known to be responsible for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). COVID-19 declared pandemic March, 2020 since then, it has caused number deaths over 200 countries around world. Extensive researches have continued search effective vaccines or drug compounds against SARS-CoV-2 total 64 are currently clinical trials with 12 approved use by different regulatory bodies, depending on country. Since SARS-CoV-2, many utilised traditional herbal medicines alongside conventional drugs treatment infected patients. In this review, used prevent treat infection listed along plant parts as healers. Additionally, possible mechanisms preventive therapeutic outcome also identified listed. Our literature conducted using Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus WHO website. Unpublished reports such asdissertations theses not included. Plant including roots, leaves, flowers, seeds so been COVID-19. These medicinal herbs may exert their anti-COVID-19 activity direct inhibition virus replication entry. Some act blocking ACE-2 receptor, SARS-CoV helicase, Type II Transmembrane Serine Protease (TMPRSS2) which required order infect human cells. Others inhibiting SARSCoV-2 life-cycle related proteins, namely chymotrypsin-like cysteine protease (3CL-pro) Papain-like (PL-pro). Medicinal plants promising alternative prevention infection. Further researches, needed decipher active components structures suggest clues development coronavirus.
